Nantong Ocean Water Conservancy Engineering Co. Ltd has completed the driving of piles at Rudong Wind Energy Park and is ready for the next exciting chapter of offshore construction projects at Dafeng Wind Park. The Nantong Ocean team has gained valuable experience in the driving of large casings with the 200M vibratory hammer and the use of the 200M tandem vibratory hammer.

General Manager Mr. Ge Guolin said: ;The
200M vibratory hammer proved to be a very reliable machine and has preformed according to expectations. The hammer was operated on average for about 40 minutes a day; most of the time spent on location went into preparation work and the building of the guide frame for the pile. The Rudong project was completed on time at the end of November. 2011 The hammer was used for the driving of the foundations of 21 wind turbines.

The Rudong Wind Park is located in tidal flats placing many technical constraints on the project and restricting construction times. The Dafeng project will be built in deeper sea and not be a cookie cutter copy. The new project will require an increase of pile length from 45 meters to 60 meters and bring many exciting new challenges to the team. The Dafeng project will consist of 50 mills and be based on a three leg design for each mill resulting in a massive job of 150 piles. With the success of the 200M at Rudong NTOC will be able to start the project with confidence. An added benefit of using the
200M vibratory hammer is the minimal impact to the environment it poses as explained in an earlier report (link to article: environmental impact of sheet piling

ICE service department manager Mr. Alex Fan carried out the pre winter stop maintenance. No issues were reported the engine and hammer were both operating smoothly so only preventative maintenance such as changing the some fuel and oil filters was performed.

Forecast for Wind Park construction
China’s twelfth 5 year plan funnels tremendous resources into renewable energy a sizable part of these funds will go into the development of offshore wind parks, China will develop 5 gigawatts of offshore wind farm capacity during the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) period. There are now just a few pilot projects in this sector.
