In close cooperation with its client in Dubai, Dieseko conducted a number of tests in order to analyze the performance of its vibroflots in extreme conditions. Vibroflots are commonly used for vibro-compaction, a deep compaction technique for densifying granular soils, as well as for realizing stone columns.
 
Dieseko engineer Girt Clazing supervised the tests and explains: “Assisted by pressurized water/air jetting (pressure up to 250 bar) the 
Vibroflot penetrated to the required depth under its own weight and the vibrations created by the eccentric block. During penetration the surrounding soil particles are loosened and repacked in a denser state. After the designed depth was reached the Vibroflot was retracted stepwise and the void left by the Vibroflot was simultaneously filled with sand and stones fed from a hopper, creating a column in the ground. The whole procedure was repeated at designated locations on the building site in order to achieve the required compaction before the start of foundation work could commence.”
 
The test configuration consisted of a 
V180 Vibroflot powered by an ICE 600 power pack. The parameters were extreme: construct an 800mm column at an ambient temperature of 45°C. During the 30 minute non-stop operating time, the hydraulic assembly remained well under 60°C! Clazing added: “Prior to the start of the project, a soil survey had been conducted to determine the compaction strategy. With the iQan operated Vibroflot and power pack, the operator could precisely control the process: start, finish, and overall time, depth of penetration, all from the comfort of the operator cabin.” Compaction can be achieved to depths of up to 60 meters. The 5 ton V180 can be suspended from a regular crane and the operation by wireless remote is straightforward.
 
Vibroflots are used for soil compaction and are routinely used in land reclamation projects. The Vibroflot and ICE
sand pump form a fine duo, as both can be powered by the same power pack. After ground preparation has been completed the power pack can be hooked up to the wide range of ICE hydraulic vibratory hammers to drive sheet piles and or tubes for foundation work.
